Joseph Pilates: Beyond Exercise, a Legacy of Holistic Wellness
In the vibrant world of Classical Pilates, the central figure who brought this revolutionary practice to life was the visionary
My name is Jessica, I am a certified Pilates Instructor. I studied Tourism at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. In 2008 I had the opportunity to try, for the first time, a Pilates class. The well-being I felt when practicing this method awakened in me a great interest in it. From then on, I began to attend classes regularly, and I experienced how my body became more agile, stronger and more flexible, while my bad postural habits were being corrected.
In 2011 I started my training as a Pilates Mat instructor at Pilates Las Palmas studio. The director of the center, Diana Martinez, a great professional of dance and, of course, Pilates, was in charge of my training in Classical Pilates. His teaching is characterized by respecting the tradition and authenticity of the physical conditioning method created by Joseph H. Pilates.
After finishing my training, I started teaching on the island of Gran Canaria and later in Fuerteventura, always working within the original teachings of Joseph H. Pilates.
In 2015, following in the line of Classical Pilates, I started my second training “Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training Program” (CPTTP 500h) with the Masterpilates Training School, directed by two great references of Pilates in Spain: Luisa Core and Mabel Cabrera. In this great training, apart from enriching my knowledge in the practice of Pilates Mat, I am introduced to the wonderful world of equipment.
Since then I have been teaching group classes of Mat and Aparatos in Fuerteventura, and I continue to expand my knowledge by attending workshops of renowned teachers of the Classical Method such as Brett Howard (2015), Elena Bartley (2020), Veronica Ruiz (2024) and Gloria Gasperi (2024). In addition, I have done specific trainings for special groups: Pilates Prenatal (2020 – Masterpilates), Pilates Seniors (2021- Masterpilates) and Pilates & Breast Cancer (2024 – Masterpilates).
In the year 2021 I am also trained as a Hipopressive Instructor by the international school Low Pressure Fitness.
I started my third training in the year 2022 by successfully completing another “Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training Program” (CPTTP 450h) with the Pilates Inside Out school under the guidance of great Pilates professionals in Spain: Marida Sieve and Miriam Arias Salgado.
Currently, I continue to deepen my knowledge of the Classical Method and perfect my practice by taking classes from the internationally known Veronica Ruiz of Pilates Ambassador.
As an instructor, one of the things that gratifies me the most is to see the “transformation” of the students with the practice of the method: they improve their back problems, correct their postures, strengthen their core, tone their whole body, increase their flexibility and balance, among other benefits. As a result, their quality of life improves considerably. I feel fortunate to be able to contribute, with my work, to the well-being of all these people. Seeing them smile when we finish a class motivates me to keep learning and improving every day.
Currently, I am teaching on the wonderful island of Fuerteventura. If you are on the island and would like to try a Pilates class, you can contact me to book a session. And if not, remember that I also offer online Pilates sessions where we can practice together.
